Higher education seeks partnership with businesses

By Katie Wilson
Times West Virginian

FAIRMONT Teamwork was the message of the day when higher education officials spoke at the Teaming to Win conference Thursday.

West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission Chancellor Brian Noland, West Virginia University President James Clements and Fairmont State University President Thomas Krepel spoke before a host of business leaders at the conference. Their topic was workforce education.

The session was mediated by Congressman Alan Mollohan, D-W.Va., who said the purpose of the session was to review where the state’s higher education has been and where it’s going.

The session was wide-ranging, from basic philosophy about innovation and creativity to high school graduation rates.

Krepel said the best way to develop tomorrow’s workforce was to educate students to be better citizens: Creative, innovative, critical thinkers who show good ethical principles.
