West Virginia University junior redshirt linebacker d’Vante Martinez Henry, 21, of Moore, Okla., is being held at North Central Regional Jail on $100,000 bond on a felony charge of sexual assault, according to a report in the Charleston Daily Mail.
According to the criminal complaint turned into Monongalia Magistrate Court by Detective Nick DeMedici, a woman claimed Henry had assaulted her on Sunday in an apartment.
She told detectives Henry entered her room in the early morning hours and physically forced her to have sex and that when she told him to stop he said “shut up” and continued.
Henry admitted having sex with the woman but claimed it was consensual, according to the complaint.
Henry was dismissed from the Mountaineer football team on Thursday morning, Coach Dana Holgorsen issuing the following statement:
“There were strict parameters put in place that he had to abide by in order to play next season,” Holgorsen said. “The allegations made against him are troubling and very serious.
“He is no longer a Mountaineer.”
Henry is a 6-5, 205-pound linebacker, came to WVU from Arizona Western College.
He was late enrolling in school and it was decided to redshirt him this year.
A year ago at Arizona Western he had 55 tackles, 23 of them solo.
Henry chose WVU over Iowa State, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Texas Tech and Utah.
