West Virginia University may be able to land another proven top-of-the-line running back this summer.
Pitt’s Rushel Shell, considered one of the top running back recruits in last year’s recruiting class, is considering transferring to WVU, Kentucky or Ohio State, according to his mother, talking to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Shell attended Pitt last year and playing as a backup to Ray Graham rushed for 610 yards and four touchdowns.
During the off-season Shell announced he was going to transfer to UCLA and was given a release by Pitt to transfer there, but backed out of the deal with UCLA because he did not want to be a continent away from his 16-month-old twin daughters.
When he asked Pitt if he could return, he was turned down.
Shell had offers from West Virginia and Ohio State out of Hopewell High School.
If Shell transfers on the Division I level he must sit out a season.
WVU has already obtained one major transfer running back in Charles Sims, who transferred after graduating from Houston and can use his one year of eligibility immediately as a graduate transfer.
