FAIRMONT — One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting late Thursday night on Pricketts Fort Road.

At 11:03 p.m., two Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 dispatch of possible shots fired and a middle-aged man running through the yards of the neighborhood. Sheriff Joe Carpenter said that as the deputies were driving to the scene, they observed a man walking down the road.

The suspect would not cooperate with any verbal commands given to him by the deputies, Carpenter said, and then pulled out a semi-automatic pistol.

At that point, one the deputies responding to the scene drew his service weapon and fired one round, fatally wounding the suspect.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department has yet to release the name of the suspect or the deputy involved in the shooting pending the completion of the investigation into Thursday night’s incident.
