Son to join father at Marion Medical Associates

By Jessica Legge
Times West Virginian

FAIRMONT Dr. Brad Miller will soon join his father, Dr. Thomas Miller, at Marion Medical Associates in Fairmont.

Marion Medical Associates Inc. is a corporation organized for internal medicine, or adult medicine. Drs. Jess Jenkins, who has since passed away, and David Lindsay started the corporation in the early 1950s.

A Fairmont native and Fairmont Senior High School graduate, Dr. Thomas Miller graduated from West Virginia University in 1974 and did four years of residency at CAMC in Charleston. He became a part of Marion Medical Associates in 1978.

When Jenkins and Lindsay retired in the early ’90s, Thomas went solo and moved the business to its present location at 1912 Locust Ave. His wife Karen is the office nurse, and Linda Mason works as the office manager.

Thomas and Karen’s son, Dr. Brad Miller, will officially start work at Marion Medical Associates in December. Brad, who attended Fairmont Senior High School, earned an undergraduate degree in computer engineering from West Virginia University and in 2004 received his medical doctorate. At the end of November, he will finish three years of residency in internal medicine at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Brad grew up in Fairmont but has lived in Morgantown for the past 11 years. Brad and his wife Jamie plan to move to Fairmont soon, and he is excited to serve the area as a doctor. He said the community has been supportive of his return to Fairmont.

“It’s been my dream to come back here,” he said. “It’s finally coming together.”

Brad got interested in medicine by seeing the work his dad did. Even with a busy medical career, Thomas tried to arranged his schedule so he could be there for Brad and his younger brother Adam as they were growing up.

“I’ve always wanted to work with my dad; I’ve always admired him,” Brad said. “We’re very proud to be working together.”

Father and son are both looking forward to Brad’s arrival at the practice. Thomas can confer with a doctor fresh out of academic medicine, and Brad can take his questions to someone with 30 years of clinical experience who knows the business.

“I think it’s going to be a unique opportunity,” Thomas said.

Marion Medical Associates is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. For more information, call 363-3500.
