FAIRMONT — Craig’s Satellite is providing experience and personal service at its new home in Fairmont.

Owner Craig Duchaine recently moved his business from Sutton in Braxton County, where it had been located for 16 years, to the Fairmont area. Craig’s Satellite can now be found at 1506 Pennsylvania Ave. in Bellview.

The company primarily sells DISH Network and DIRECTV and performs the installation. Craig follows up with customers in order to provide servicing for new accounts and upgrades.

He is also certified through DISH Network to offer its satellite high-speed internet service, called dishNET. In addition, he does some closed circuit TV for video surveillance of clients’ houses and businesses.

Craig said the local service is what sets his business apart. If people call the 800 number for DISH Network or DIRECTV, he said they won’t be able to get the same representative on the phone and they have no idea who is coming to their home.

Craig’s Satellite gives customers a place to call for service if they need it, and they know that they’ll always be dealing with the same person.

“It often makes people feel a lot more comfortable,” he said.

Also, the business can mediate issues that people may have with DISH Network or DIRECTV, and Craig can make inquiries on their behalf.

His wife Carey helps out with the operations and is basically the co-owner through marriage. She said she hopes people will realize that they can call Craig’s Satellite and keep their money local.

“Nobody’s better at what they do than he is,” Carey said of her husband, who has been doing cable TV contract work since 1983.

Craig was raised in Maine, and Carey grew up mainly in Texas and Tennessee. They met in Colorado, got married in Arizona, and then went to live in Maine, where Craig owned and operated Duchaine’s Cable Services.

Life later took them to Sutton, W.Va., and Craig opened Craig’s Satellite there on April 15, 1997.

“I enjoy working with TV,” he said. “I’ve always just enjoyed that.”

Craig and Carey have been together for 29 years and have three children, who are all in Fairmont. One of their kids graduated from Fairmont State University, and the other two are currently attending the university.

They got to know Fairmont a little bit through their children, and decided to move Craig’s Satellite to the Friendly City in order to reach a wider customer base. Craig and Carey live in Bellview not far from the business.

The building on Pennsylvania Avenue that they found for Craig’s Satellite had been empty for about four years. That space has a big history and has housed many different businesses over the years.

Craig said he likes the versatility of his job. He enjoys working in the office, as well as driving to customers’ homes and businesses and meeting people.

Craig’s Satellite is currently open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 304-366-6553 or email craig@craigssatellite.com.
