WHITE HALL — GNC remains committed to helping customers “Live Well” and stay healthy at its new location in White Hall.

This corporate General Nutrition Centers store recently moved into the newly constructed, three-shop plaza beside Bob Evans, at 9642 Mall Loop Road, after being located in the Middletown Mall for many years.

“We were the first GNC in West Virginia whenever we were in the mall,” said store manager Jonathan Benge. “Our store in the mall was the 46th store in the company.”

GNC was a long-standing store in the mall, and had probably been located there since the 1970s, he said. The business has gained a lot of loyal customers over the years.

“We’re doing just as good if not better in our new location,” Benge said.

GNC officially opened its doors at its new home on Feb. 13. He said this location in the strip center provides a little bit more visibility, which has helped the store.

About three employees help run the shop, which is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Benge said.

He explained that the business carries a wide assortment of vitamins, minerals, herbs, and sports nutrition, weight management and energy products.

According to www.gnc.com, the company has remained true to its “commitment to Living Well” as it has expanded during its more than 70-year history. This specialty retailer of nutritional products began in 1935 as a small health food store, called Lackzoom, that the late David Shakarian opened in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The business, still headquartered in Pittsburgh today, focuses on quality and satisfying customers in everything it does.

“GNC sets the standard in the nutritional supplement industry by demanding truth in labeling, ingredient safety and product potency, all while remaining on the cutting edge of nutritional science,” the website says.

Across the country, the company has more than 4,800 retail locations. That includes more than 1,000 franchise stores and 1,200 locations within Rite Aid stores. Franchise operations can also be found in almost 50 international markets.

“GNC is the world’s largest company of its kind devoted exclusively to helping its customers improve the quality of their lives,” www.gnc.com states.

White Hall mayor Jesse Corley said he is happy that the business is still calling White Hall its home, and he hopes GNC has success in its new location. This is another example of the fast growth happening in the town.

“I am glad that they did stay in the town, and wish them the best,” Corley said. “We welcome any and all businesses into the town.”

GNC is also located nearby at the Rite Aid store on Fairmont Avenue in Fairmont, and the company has several operations in Bridgeport, Clarksburg and Morgantown.
