Apps of the week: 4 apps to help you stick to your healthy New Year's resolutions

We're ten days into 2014 and the glimmer of a new year is starting to dim. Motivation to achieve those ambitious goals of a healthier lifestyle may be starting to wane, and everyone could use a few apps to support their New Year's resolutions.

Lift

Lift bills itself as a daily motivation app and aims to help users achieve goals by forming good habits.

Users select which habits they want to join, like beginning office yoga or a couch-to-5K program. The app then provides guidance along the way. Some habits have guided meditation. Others just have reminders. 

The app is available for free.

Pact

Pact, also called GymPact or Veggie Pact, motivates you by fining you for slacking on your exercise or healthy eating.

If you do well, the app rewards you with cash, paid by the users who didn't do as well.

You select how much money you're willing to put on the line, then you track how much you've made or lost. You prove you're achieving your goals with pictures of healthy meals or gym GPS check-ins.

The app is available for free.

Lose it!

Lose it!, a diet and fitness tracker, counts calories consumed and burned and prompts users to set a goal weight. The app then calculates the number of calories that you should consume each day to help you reach your goal.

The app also includes a social component where friends can encourage each other, though the tying the app to soical networking isn't mandatory.

The app is available for free.

Streaks

Streaks is a simple app, based on encouraging you to keep good behavior going by tracking your unbroken streaks. Miss a day? Your new streak starts over.

Start with simple streaks, like "eat two servings of whole grains," then add more streak calenders as you go.
