  • Playing poker

    We’ve heard this slogan cross the nation, while watching the World Series of Poker tour. Texas hold ’em has taken over the entertainment business with a bang.
  • Lay on!
    You step out onto the field and the sounds of battle surround you. Swords are slashing, arrows are flying by, while people dressed in medieval clothing enjoy the fight
    Is it a dream? No, it’s a Dagorhir event, an organization that allows its participants to combine both history and fantasy.
  •  'Awesome' band
    The Fairmont State University Jazz Ensemble will perform a free concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Turley Center. The jazz ensemble includes a 16-piece band directed by Dr. Valarie Huffman.
    She has been directing the ensemble for approximately three years and is also a member of the band, playing the trombone, said fellow band member and music major John (JD) Reed.
    Huffman is assistant professor of music/director of bands at Fairmont State University. She teaches courses in music education, and she also conducts the marching and concerts bands as well as many other responsibilities at the college.
  •  The name of the game
    Lauren Maochi is a fighter.
    Since joining the West Virginia University boxing team, the Pittsburgh native boasts an unblemished 1-0 record and newfound sense of pride and accomplishment.

    Then there are those who think of snowy mountains, hiking trails or construction sites.
  •  Being a Toughman
    here are several Toughman competitions in the area for men and women to compete in for cash money and prizes.
    Not only can boxers enter their talents in the ring, but also four-ring girls have a chance of also winning prizes.
  •  It’s all part of the game
    "No yearly fees!” “Sign-up now and earn rewards!”
    When walking across college campuses, one may hear these exclamations from banks trying to convince students that getting a credit card is a crucial thing.
  •  Grad school: More money and more homework
    Many college students working on their undergraduate degrees have an intention of going to graduate school, while others aren’t sure what their next move will be.
    For those of you who are considering or planning on going for the next step, here is a little insight.
  •  Club sports taking a jab
    Club sports often get overlooked, says Patrick McLaughlin, president of West Virginia University’s boxing club.
    “The university hasn’t helped us out at all,” McLaughlin said.
