FSU softball splits twinbill with Scots

Fairmont State split a doubleheader with visiting Edinboro Friday afternoon, falling 2-0 in the first game and winning the second game, 6-4.
Junior Kristy Rausch hit two home runs and had five RBIs for the Lady Falcons (10-9).
In game one, Edinboro used four consecutive hits, including a home run and run-scoring double, in the sixth inning for the contest’s lone scoring.
Katie Burgess went the distance for the Falcons, giving up eight hits, two runs, striking out five and walking two.
Whitnie Highland, Deanna Groves and Danielle Dalton had hits for Fairmont State.
In game two, Rausch got things started with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. She added another home run in the fourth.
In the third, the Lady Falcons scored four runs with two outs. Brooke Keene hit an RBI double, Rausch brought in two more with a double and Highland capped the inning with an RBI single.
The Fighting Scots countered with four runs the next half-inning, but Alyssa Childers set down Edinboro the rest of the way, giving up one hit in the final three innings.
Childers, who improved to 8-3 on the year, pitched seven innings. She gave up four runs and struck out six.
