Angelova, Gautreau Feaster Award winners

By Duane Cochran
For the Times West Virginian

FAIRMONT Fairmont State's Geri Angelova and Will Gautreau have been model student-athletes during their college careers.

Thus, the pair will be honored Saturday evening with the Easton K. Feaster Award at the 46th annual Fairmont State Athletic Association (FSAA) Scholarship Banquet.

First-year West Virginia University head football coach Bill Stewart, a Fairmont State graduate, will be the featured speaker at this year's banquet, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the school's Falcon Center.

The Feaster Award is presented annually to the female and male senior student-athletes who have maintained the highest overall grade-point average during their careers.

Angelova, the female recipient, is a member of the Fairmont State swim team. She was a four-year letter-winner for the Falcons.

The native of Velingrad, Bulgaria is majoring in business and accounting at FSU and had a grade-point average of 3.97.

Gautreau, the male recipient, is a four-year letterman in golf. The native of Niagara, Ontario, Canada is majoring in business management at Fairmont State and has a grade-point average of 3.61.

He was a first-team All-West Virginia Conference selection this season and a second-team honoree as a junior.

At FSU Gautreau has been a member of two league championship teams and helped lead the Falcons to the NCAA Division II East Regional title last spring by tying for medalist honors with a three-day total of 221.

He has helped lead Fairmont State to four consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division II Super Regional, including one which begins Monday in Middletown, Del.

Gautreau was a member of the Ping NCAA Division II All-East Region Team last spring and also garnered honorable mention Ping All-America honors in 2007.

Both Angelova and Gautreau were recently honored in Charleston during the West Virginia Conference Basketball Tournament as Fairmont State's recipients of the First Community Bank/WVIAC Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards. This award also honors each school's male and female senior student-athlete with the highest GPA.
