Fairmont State lost a pair of one-run games Friday evening at the West Virginia Conference Softball Championships in Vienna. The Falcons lost 3-2 against West Virginia State in the first game, and was then eliminated by the same score against Salem International.
FSU finished its season at 30-23 record. It is just the second 30-win season in school history.
In game one, FSU got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Deana Groves hit an RBI single. Sarah Zeleznikar brought home a runner from third with a hard hit ball to the shortstop.
The Yellow Jackets tied things up in the third with a pair of runs. WV State scored the eventual game-winner in the fourth.
In game two, Fairmont State again staked itself out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Groves hit an RBI double, and Zeleznikar scored another with a single up the middle. The Tigers rallied quickly, though, with a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning.
