FSU advances to MEC final with resounding win over Charleston

WHEELING — Fairmont State University’s volleyball team advanced to the final of the Mountain East Conference Tournament after defeating Charleston, 3-1, in the first semifinal on Friday evening at the McDonough Center.

The Falcons found themselves down 1-0 after the opening set when the Golden Eagles picked up the 25-20 victory. FSU started quickly in the second and third sets, winning both by the score of 25-18 to gain a 2-1 advantage.

Early in the fourth set it was all UC as the Golden Eagles took a 9-3 advantage to force a Fairmont State timeout. FSU responded after the timeout and took the next four points, three of which were kills by Bri Swann.

UC still held an 18-15 advantage later in the set but from that point FSU scored 15 of the final 18 points of the set to pick up the 25-21 victory in the fourth set.

Fairmont State had 64 kills and a .235 attacking percentage compared to just 32 kills and a .125 attack percentage for UC. The Golden Eagles had a 13-5 advantage in blocks.
