FSU’s Monroe hopes to have breakout season

BRIDGEPORT — The running back position is recognized as one of the most glamorous positions on the football field.

An effective running back must have a superior blend of quickness and agility, as well as sure hands and shrewd vision up field as a runner.

More and more quarterbacks depend on running backs as a safety valve. Take for instance Adrian Peterson with the Minnesota Vikings and Steven Jackson, who spent his first nine seasons with the St. Louis Rams.

Both Peterson and Jackson are big, they are fast and they take the pressure off their quarterbacks. In return, the teams have winning seasons, which makes both the coaches happy and the fans happy.

Understanding the role of the running back position is Fairmont State University’s Daniel Monroe. During his first two seasons with the Fighting Falcons, Monroe has earned a name for himself.
