FSU’s Ferrell earns NCAA Regional bid

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Fairmont State’s Jess Ferrell has earned a spot in the 2014 NCAA Regional Championships on May 5-7 at the Edgewood Country Club in Charleston. Ferrell was named on of the four individual participants from the Atlantic Region.

Three teams from the Mountain East Conference and three individuals have earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Alantic/East Regional Championship that will be hosted by the MEC in Charleston.

The announcement came late Friday when the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Committee revealed the 80 teams and 32 individuals that have been selected for regional competition in the 2014 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships.

Charleston is the third seed in the Atlantic Region, followed by West Liberty at sixth and Concord in eighth. Fairmont State’s Jess Ferrell earned an individual berth, along with Notre Dame’s Brian Bir and Shepherd’s Joe Burkinshaw.

The top three teams and the top two individuals not on those three teams from all four regions will advance to the 2014 NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship on May 19-23 at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich. The eight remaining team berths will be allocated by the committee based on a set of specific criteria stemming from last year’s championship.
