FSU’s Moroose to be recognized for service

Banquet set for Saturday

FAIRMONT — The 2014 recipient of the L.O. Bickel Service Award is Dr. Donald A. Moroose. Moroose has been member of the Fairmont State faculty since 1969 as a Professor of Education.

Moroose will be recognized at the Fairmont State Athletic Association Spring Scholarship Banquet on Saturday, May 3, at 5:30 p.m., in Gym 1 of the Falcon Center. Tickets are $60 for adults and $30 for students, with net proceeds going to support athletic scholarships. Longtime NFL and NCAA official Gene Steratore will be the keynote speaker.

Dr. Moroose has also been the Faculty Athletic Representative since the early 1990s, serving as a liaison between the institution and the athletic department. Moroose advocates for student-athletes to help promote their success in the classroom, in athletics, and in the community by striking a balance among academic excellence, athletic competition and social growth as they prepare for lifelong success.

In addition, Moroose has also been a member of the FSAA for the past 35 years. The FSAA provides financial scholarship support for athletic programs through events held to promote public awareness and support for student-athletes.

In his time with the FSAA, Moroose has been a co-chair for elimination dinners, athletic banquets, various golf tournaments and is heavily involved in ticket selling for all FSAA events and fundraisers.

Moroose received his Bachelor’s of Art degree in Education from Fairmont State in 1965 and obtained a Master’s of Art in Guidance and Counseling from West Virginia University in 1967. He remained at West Virginia University for three more years to pursue a Doctorate in Guidance/Counseling Educational Psychology in 1970.

Moroose is also an adjunct professor at WVU and Marshall and worked in the Wood County School system from 1965-67 before coming to Fairmont State.
