FSU tennis inks two

FAIRMONT — Kayla Kurczak, head women’s tennis coach at Fairmont State, has announced that Kari Amtower and Janay Beamer have signed national letters of intent to play tennis at Fairmont State starting in the fall of 2014.

Kari Amtower, a West Virginia standout from Keyser High School, won a AA state championship in the #3 doubles spot and was state runner-up in the #4 singles spot follower her junior season. So far this season, Amtower has captured the #1 doubles title at the AMAC Conference Tournament. The Cumberland Times News named Amtower the student-athlete of the month in May 2013. Amtower plans to major in Psychology at Fairmont State.

Janay Beamera, a four-year standout at Harvey High School in Painesville, Ohio, plans to major in Political Science while attending Fairmont State. Beamera earned Chagrin Valley Conference honorable mention and All-CVC academic honors following her senior season and has been named team MVP for the last two years at Harvey High. She has played in the #1 singles position all four years of her high school career and is a power baseliner with a strong serve.

Head coach Kayla Kurczak will open up her second season as the women’s tennis coach at Fairmont State this coming fall.
