Snyder helps Lady Falcons bounce back

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont State Lady Falcons rolled past the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit on Monday evening, 64-58.

Although the Falcons were victorious, they had to overcome a seven-point deficit right from the get-go.

“We got down early,” said Fairmont State starting point guard Kaitlin Snyder. “We came off a bad loss just last week. We didn’t play up to our potential the last game, so that made us listen and say, ‘Any team in our conference can beat us.’ So taking off a possession or two isn’t going to cut it. I feel that we played with a bigger sense of urgency today and that led to our win.”

The choice for the Falcons was either dig down deep and overcome adversity early, or pack it in and enjoy the snow day.

FSU chose the first option — to overcome adversity.

On the prowl was the Falcons’ Snyder. Something clicked and her shooting parade began.

“I feel like our offense got in more of a rhythm,” Snyder said. “If you’re in a

better rhythm together, it allowed me to shoot and it also helped our entire team.”

Overcoming the seven-point deficit, FSU started rolling. From there, the Lady Falcons went on an 18-4 run.

“I thought it was great to know that we had a run,” Snyder said. “Everybody was clicking really well and dishing the ball out. We were hitting our shots and I felt that we were rebounding better. Overall, that just got us going.”

It was Snyder who was rolling the dice early. She notched four 3-pointers in the first half that put the clamper on the Cardinals.

This led to a 35-25 halftime lead.

“(Snyder) shot the ball well and she gets lots of open shots,” Fairmont State head coach Steve McDonald said. “She’s been struggling a little bit, but she shot the ball extremely well.”
