Mazzulla joins FSU as assistant coach

FAIRMONT — Joe Mazzulla, who helped lead West Virginia University to a 2010 Final Four appearance, will join the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons and Jerrod Calhoun’s men’s basketball program as an assistant coach this upcoming season.

During the past two years, Mazzulla coached under the direction of Stephen Dye at Glenville State College, but when the opportunity came knocking at FSU, it was time for him to pack his bags and come to Fairmont.

“It worked out perfect when we had a coaching opportunity open,” Calhoun said. “Any time you can add an assistant coach to your staff that was one of the best players to ever put the uniform on at West Virginia, it will help with our recruiting.

“But it’s not just that. He understands our history at Fairmont State University, and what we’re trying to do. He wants to help build a national championship program here, and he wants to be a part of it.”
