FAIRMONT —
For the third year in a row, the Times West Virginian won first place General Excellence within its division in the annual West Virginia Press Association Advertising Awards contest.
The General Excellence distinction is given based on a point system of individual awards in the annual contest. Within Division II, which includes newspapers with daily circulation of 20,000 or less, the Times West Virginian won 10 first-place, 10 second-place and 10 third-place awards, for a total of 30 awards.
The General Excellence and individual advertising awards were announced Friday evening during a banquet at the Marriott in Charleston.
“We’re pleased once again to be recognized by our peers for providing our advertisers with creative ideas and professionally designed advertising,” said Andy Kniceley, Times WV publisher.
“We are certainly proud of the quality of work that our advertising representatives and graphic artists provide to our customers,” Kniceley said.
“I am proud of our staff and their commitment to serving our clients,” said Craig Richards, Times WV advertising director. “They want to be the best in their field, and that results in excellent service and creativity.
“These awards are not a goal but the result of a continuing commitment our staff has for each and every business we serve,” Richards said.
Barbara Gaston, Times WV art director, said that achieving this distinction was a combined effort between the newspaper’s advertising team, which works with clients to design the concept of print ads, and the graphics department, which creates the ads.
“They take great pride in their work,” Gaston said. “I am very proud to be a member of the award-winning Times West Virginian advertising team.”
