Mannington waterline low bidders revealed

Contractors should soon be officially awarded the work

By Mallory Panuska

FAIRMONT The names of the low bidders on the three construction contracts to run a 13-mile public waterline along U.S. Route 250 from Fairmont to Mannington have been officially released.

And following the receipt of recommendation letters from the project engineers, which Fairmont utilities manager Dave Sago said should come in sometime this week, these contractors should soon be officially awarded the work.

For Contract A, which will run a 16-inch line from Cleveland Avenue to the soccer park and Mannington’s booster pump station, the low bidder was Chojnacki Construction Inc. of Hamlin, and the bid came in at $980,000.

Contract B, which will run a 12-inch waterline from the soccer park on Route 250 to the Mannington system, came in at $2.523 million by low bidder Mike Enyart & Sons Inc. of South Point, Ohio.

And Contract C will be for the supervising control and data acquisition system, which is the electronic monitoring system for the project, and the low bidder was Fairmont-based Davis Electric Co. This bid came in at $73,500.

Sago said the amounts, which equal out to right around $3.7 million, came in below the original $4 million construction estimate for the project, which he said should kick off construction sometime in July if everything goes as planned.

“The estimates came in a little bit less, which is a good thing,” Sago said. “Basically, it’s a testament to the engineer estimate and the City of Fairmont’s efforts on meeting and going over the project.”

The closing date for the construction contracts is set for June 27, and Sago is hoping to hold the pre-construction meeting on the same day.

He said the project has a 210-day timeline for construction and if everything stays on schedule, the waterline should be finished sometime next spring.
