Birthday party leads to boost for Humane Society

FAIRMONT — Because four young Fairmont children wanted to have their birthday parties together, the Marion County Humane Society is getting a major boost in supplies.

Here’s how Krissy Shaffer, mother of one of the children, described it.

“Two of the youngsters are moving to Las Vegas on Tuesday as their father has a new job out there,” she said. “So they decided to have a joint party, and we had to have it a little early.

“They decided they didn’t want to receive gifts but wanted to help the Humane Society.”

And that’s what they did.

Observing their birthdays were Sydnee Shaffer, Ben Stewart, and Mike and Maria Geraghty. It was the 11th birthday for three of them and the 10th for the other.

Where was this party held?

“We held it at the Wave Pool,” Shaffer said, “and about 150 children attended. And they all brought gifts for the Humane Society. We had specified that on the party invitation.”

Krissy’s husband Brian put all the pet items on the back of his truck, and they will be taking them to the Humane Society today.

She said the children all have many of the same friends, but each of them has individual friends as well, explaining the large guest list.

And that meant more supplies for the Humane Society.
