No major injuries were reported during a Tuesday morning accident involving a school bus.
The Monongalia County school bus was traveling west on Statler Run Road when the accident occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. Monongalia County Deputy A.D. Bise said he could not say exactly what caused the accident and that it was still under investigation.
The bus was the lone vehicle involved in the accident, Bise said. The driver of the bus lost control and the vehicle slid over an embankment, hit two trees and came to rest in the yard of a house. The bus did not roll on its side of flip over, Bise said.
Sixteen children were on the bus at the time of the accident, Bise said. He added that numerous medical personnel were called to the scene to examine the school children. Five people were taken to the hospital, Bise said.
“All injuries were minor,” he said.
Along with the Monongalia County Rescue squad and deputies, the Marion County Rescue Squad also responded to the scene. The Worthington Rescue Squad also responded as did the Fairview and Grant Town fire departments.
