UPDATE — W.Va. gas price inches up, hitting a record $3.92 per gallon

CHARLESTON — West Virginia’s average price for a gallon of gasoline is creeping toward the dreaded $4 mark.

According to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report, the Mountain State has hit another record high average of $3.92 per gallon of regular.

Last month’s average was $3.45 and a year ago it was $3.14.

The state’s average has been steadily climbing since February.

AAA’s survey of five metropolitan areas in the state indicates the best price, $3.84 per gallon, is in the Weirton area while Parkersburg is averaging the highest at $3.95.

The price of a gallon of regular gas in West Virginia remains higher than five surrounding states, whose averages range from $3.69 in Virginia to $3.89 in Ohio.

The national average is $3.78.
