HCS Technologies: Providing alternative energy systems

By Jessica Legge
Times West Virginian

FAIRMONT Focusing on important power systems is very rewarding and satisfying, said Dan Headley, president of HCS Technologies Inc.

HCS Technologies, incorporated in January 2002, is located in Reedsville but does the bulk of its work in Fairmont for the West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation.

Headley, a resident of Reedsville, operates the business with his two sons, Bruce and Jason, who each live in the Morgantown area. Bruce is vice president of the company, and Jason is in charge of research and development. Three other employees also help run HCS Technologies.

The company does work related to alternative energy systems and specialized data communications systems.

Dan Headley said RespondComm is one of several WVHTC Foundation programs that HCS Technologies supports. RespondComm, sponsored by the National Institute of Justice, is a communication project for emergency responders.

“We work with specialized communications systems powered by alternative power systems, and we take these communications systems (and) put them out in remote areas,” he said. “No external power is required for these platforms.”

Following an event like Hurricane Katrina, a system like this could be airlifted to areas with no communications, he said.
