The Fairmont State University Board of Governors approved the institution’s budget worth nearly $54 million Thursday.
When the different funds are added together, the BOG approved a budget of $53,887,548.25 for the fiscal year beginning July 1. That budget allows for just more than $2 million in salaries, but does not include any across-the-board raises. Only those raises mandated by state law were part of the budget. That’s in line with this year’s legislative action, in which no raises for state employees were approved under the current economic conditions.
The coming year’s budget was enhanced by a special appropriation of $1.25 million from the state Legislature. BOG Chairman Andy Kniceley announced at the meeting the area’s legislators and the governor had worked hard to get the money, which was a one-time supplement to the university’s budget.
