Mannington still faces big water costs

Will consider rate increase to fix deficit

FAIRMONT It has been almost five years since the inception of the development of the Fairmont-to-Mannington waterline.

And from rights-of-way issues to construction hold-ups, a number of things brought up on both cities’ ends have pushed back each tentative completion date that has been set.

Today, the final hook-up is still not set in stone, but officials from Fairmont, Mannington and Region VI Planning and Development Council have thrown out dates ranging from as early as mid-July to as late as five months away.

Dave Sago, Fairmont utilities manager, said he expects the project to be finished by the middle of next month. But Sheena Hunt of Region VI said she expects it to take another three to five months. Mannington City Clerk Michele Fluharty said she heard it would be finished in late July or early August.
