Mannington water service disrupted

Boil-water advisory should soon be lifted

FAIRMONT — Work on the Fairmont-to-Mannington waterline along U.S. Route 250 has disrupted water service to the northern city’s current customer base.

Mannington City Clerk Michele Fluharty said customers have been under a boil-water advisory since Monday because contractors working on the extension project hit a main line while tying into the system.

Charlie Rexrode, Mannington water superintendent, said Wednesday that the contractors had fixed the line and were waiting for approval from the health department to lift the boil-water advisory. He said he expects that everything will pass inspection and the advisory will be removed by the weekend.

Fluharty said no bottled water has been given out for the affected customers, which includes all the system’s users. And while some customers were left with no water at times because of the issue, she said most people still had water but simply had to boil it before drinking it or cooking with it as a precaution.
