Wilson named special prosecutor

Marion prosecutors will be stepping out of their home county to prosecute a high-profile Harrison County case in the coming months.
Clarksburg City Councilman Martin Shaffer has been charged with two misdemeanors for violating state election laws. He was arrested earlier this month for allegedly taking part in the creation of a public document that made critical accusations about other city council members. The document was distributed just before the last city election.
Following the disqualification of Harrison Prosecutor Joe Shaffer from the case shortly after the arrest, the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorney’s Institute named Marion Prosecutor Pat Wilson, or one of his successors or designees, as the special prosecution last Wednesday. The order was signed by Harrison County Circuit Judge Thomas Bedell.
