Progress made on new contract; no strike at FGH

— Local 550 of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union at Fairmont General Hospital will not be going on strike.
When Local 550 of RWDSU didn’t accept the hospital’s proposed new contract Monday, the parties came back together to negotiate the renewal. Talks continued until late Tuesday as they approached the expiration of their current contract.
“The hospital and the Local 550 are meeting today in hopes of reaching an agreement,” Mike Sengewalt, interim CEO of Fairmont General Hospital, said earlier Tuesday. “We are hopeful that an agreement can be reached before the deadline.”
