When he was a sophomore at North Marion High School, Shawn Tennant forced himself to make a choice: Continue his wrestling career with the Huskies or dive headlong into his other love, the sport of rodeo.
In the end, the Fairview native decided on the road less traveled, putting all his athletic energies into rodeo.
Nearly two years later and a soon-to-be high school senior, he believes he made the right choice.
“It’s hard to be great at two different sports. I had to choose one or the other and I chose rodeo,” he said before the start of Friday night’s competition at 4T Arena in Corbin Ranch. “It’s a lot bigger (to win in rodeo). You win a wrestling match, it’s you or the other guy. In this, we’re going against 50 or 60 teams at a time."
