A project that evolved from a 1990s pipe dream, the Fairmont Gateway Connector is still set for completion late next year.
“We are moving along pretty good,” Division of Highways District 4 area construction engineer Danny Donlin said last week of the ongoing roadway construction project.
“Actually, for the past two to three weeks, we had pretty good weather during the week so the contractors could really get some work done,” he added. “It may only rain one or two days a week. But if it rains a lot it puts a dent in the project. It seems like we got a lot of work done in the last month or so.”
Originally called the Riverside Expressway, the connector is a 1.5-mile, four-lane highway connecting downtown Fairmont with Interstate-79 that has been in the works for several years.
