A new mayor was sworn in Sunday in a ceremony attended by family, friends and neighbors along the banks of the Monongahela River at Riverfront Park.
Administering the oath of office to newly-elected mayor Ed Mahalick and council members was Delegate Mike Caputo, D-Marion, who was once a member of town council.
Mahalick held up his right hand and swore an oath to serve the people of his hometown to the best of his ability. This will be Mahalick’s second term as mayor.
“I love this town. Don’t be afraid to stop me on the street and tell me what you think,” Mahalick said after the ceremony.
Past mayors had been sworn in as part of a regular council meeting, but not this time. Town Recorder Barb Beatty and council members Jim Hershman, Leo DeMary, Nicole Conrad, Tracy Runyan and Roxann Smith took the oath of office in front of a gazebo in Riverfront Park.
