After weeks of searching, Fairmont police officers believe they have recovered the gun that was used to kill 21-year-old Christopher Martin.
Fairmont Detective Sgt. Matt Pigott said Wednesday that the alleged weapon, a palm-sized, semi-automatic handgun, is being sent to a state laboratory in Charleston for ballistics confirmation and DNA and fingerprint analysis to determine if it was the gun used in the June 26 shooting.
Pigott would not release where exactly the weapon was recovered, but said officers did not find it where they had been looking underneath the Fourth Street Bridge.
