FBI business ‘through the roof’

After 14 years and a lot of growth, the local FBI center is expanding.
FBI spokesman Stephen Fischer said the bidding process has begun on a new 1,300-space parking garage, and the same process will soon begin on a new 360,000-square foot facility called the Biometric Technology Center.
The FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services opened in Clarksburg in the summer of 1995. A big part of the center’s business is performing fingerprint checks, Fischer said. In today’s world, that’s a big business. Just last winter, FBI employees in Clarksburg were performing 75,000 fingerprint checks per day. Now, they’re doing 200,000 a day, Fischer said.
