Fairmont woman charged with bigamy

By Bill Byrd
Times West Virginian

FAIRMONT A 30-year-old Fairmont woman charged with one felony count of bigamy used an altered birth certificate to obtain a new marriage license, according to a police criminal complaint.

Glenna Lynn Wooten, of 313 View Ave., Fairmont, was also charged with forgery of a public record, the complaint states. She was recently arrested by Detective Sgt. Matt Pigott of the Fairmont police department.

On March 7, she “presented an altered birth certificate identifying herself as Lynn Davis” at the Marion County courthouse, states the detective’s complaint.

Wooten then signed and filed an application for a marriage license using the name Lynn Marie Davis.

Wooten lived with her new “husband” for a short time, before finally moving back in with the man she married in April 2005.

She stayed long enough with her new partner to obtain a credit card and six checks, using his identity to obtain the card. She forged his signature to the checks, using them to pay one bill and to obtain cash five times, the complaint states.

Marion Magistrate Cathy Reed-Vanata set Wooten’s bond at $5,000 personal recognizance on each charge. Wooten is free on bond.
