A 20-year-old Randolph County man was indicted Monday by a Marion County grand jury on a charge of first-degree murder for allegedly running over a man last month.
Robert J. Winning, of Montrose, struck Christopher Willliams, 28, a Pittsburgh native, with his car around 5 a.m. on Sept. 6, city police said at the time.
The incident happened in the 900 block of Fairmont Avenue. Williams, who suffered severe head injuries, died about 1 p.m. that day at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, police said.
The two men had an argument in Winning’s car just before the hit-and-run attack, police said.
The grand jury also indicted 28 other individuals, including a Wisconsin man for a bank holdup in White Hall on June 18.
Jordan M. Karter, 24, of Eagle River, Wis., was indicted on one count of robbery.
Karter was quickly captured by police after he gave a teller at the Huntington National Bank office on Middletown Road a note demanding cash.
His vehicle — a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck with Wisconsin license plates — was spotted in the parking lot of a nearby motel. Police had Karter in custody within about 25 minutes of the incident, Marion Sheriff Junior Slaughter said at the time.
The grand jury returns today to continue its review of criminal cases presented by Marion Prosecutor Patrick N. Wilson and his staff. Marion Judge Fred L. Fox II is presiding over the grand jury’s secret deliberations.
