Arts & Humanities Commission honors artists

Four students recognized for achievements

By J. Miles Layton

FAIRMONT After performing their first arrangement at the 25th Fairmont Arts & Humanities Commission awards on Sunday, two world renowned musicians received the first of many standing ovations.

The commission honors local, regional and state artists and scholars who advance the arts and humanities by their own talents and dedication.

Bridging the Gap, a highly acclaimed string duo featuring violinist Peter Wilson and double bassist Aaron Clay, performed a rendition of songs ranging from “Amazing Grace” to the themes of “Titanic.” They have performed at the White House on many occasions.

Wilson, who grew up in Morgantown, and Clay, a native of Fairmont, were recognized for their musical skill by the commission in 2004. Their dedication to their craft served as notice of what the future holds for the students honored by the commission for their artistic talents.

Local students being recognized this year for their achievements were Dana Sayre, Tylar Kovar, Ciara Jackson and Clayton Dunn. Inspired to create, these students open a vein to let magic flow on stage or a canvas.
