Work is currently at a stand-still on the future full-service grocery store for Fairmont’s East Side.
CGP Development Corp., a small, family-owned development company headquartered in Elkins, is renovating the former Brown’s Lumber & Supply Co. building and transforming it into the grocery store.
Craig Phillips, president of CGP Development, said the company really hasn’t been doing much work on the project recently, as it has been concentrating on a grocery store in Philippi.
“Work on the grocery store (in Fairmont) is going to start proceeding here in the future,” he said.
The identity of the East Side store has not yet been released.
At this point, Phillips doesn’t know when the business will open. But he said the store is in progress, and the company has been trying to get the outside work done.
The grocery store in Philippi is scheduled to open sometime in January. CGP Development will begin focusing on the inside of the Fairmont store at that time, Phillips said.
Toward the end of November, CGP Development will open a Dollar General store on the East Side adjacent to the grocery store, he said. Workers will start shelving next week, and the new store should be ready for business later this month.
Earlier this year, the company completed the Cadbury Schweppes warehouse at the Marion Regional Business Park, which is the former Eldora drag strip. Cadbury Schweppes, known as the world’s biggest confectionery company, began occupying the building around the middle of March.
