Commission recognized for support of EMS

By Mallory Panuska
Times West Virginian

FAIRMONT The Marion County Commissioners were recognized Wednesday for their continued support of local emergency medical services.

Glen Satterfield, supervisor of the Marion County Rescue Squad, and Gail Dragoo, technical support supervisor, thanked the commission for its assistance in making many of the rescue squad’s recent and ongoing projects possible.

They also presented a plaque to the three commissioners recognizing their “continued support” of the organization and everything they do within the county through monetary donations and other types of support.

“We are grateful to the commissioners for support of emergency medical services,” Dragoo said.

She added that many of the projects that the squad has undergone may not even have been possible without the support of the county commission.

In other business Wednesday, the commissioners gave elected officials’ approval for the Monongah VFD to apply for tax-exempt financing for an E-One pumper truck.

Commissioner Randy Elliott said that when any volunteer fire department within the county makes a purchase like this it has to get approval from the county commission.

“I am glad that they are able to get another pumper truck,” Elliott said. “It’s good to see them able to acquire a piece of needed equipment.”

The commissioners also voted to give $4,000 to the Marion County Habitat for Humanity to be used to help buy a new pick-up truck.

They approved a sub-grant award from the State of West Virginia Division of Homeland Security an Emergency Management which is used to pay the salary of Marion County Rescue Squad deputy director Chris McIntire and also approved the hiring of Janice Glance as a full-time employee with benefits in the county clerk’s office.
