Accidents keep first-responders busy

Three transported to hospital following collisions in county

FAIRMONT Numerous accidents around the county kept first-responders busy throughout the day Thursday.

A two-vehicle accident occurred at 4 p.m. on Route 250 south of Fairmont in White Hall. One person was transported to the hospital due to injuries sustained during the accident.

According to White Hall Police Chief Thomas Pellegrini, the driver of a Ford Focus was traveling south on Route 250 when the car crossed the center line. The driver of a Dodge minivan, which was traveling north, attempted to avoid the Focus, but was unable to do so, Pellegrini said.

The Focus then struck the minivan. The Focus then struck a building at 2857 White Hall Boulevard.

“The driver of the Focus was transported to Fairmont General Hospital by the Marion County Rescue Squad,” Pellegrini said.

The extent of the victim’s injuries was not known as of press time. The driver of the minivan was not injured.

“The Focus was totaled,” Pellegrini said.

Another person was transported to Fairmont General Hospital after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Country Club Road and Coleman Avenue earlier that day. The accident occurred at 2:50 p.m.

According to investigating officer Fairmont Patrolman Matt Armel, the driver of an Audi car was transported to the hospital due to injuries sustained in the accident.

Armel said the driver of the car was a juvenile male. The victim was transported by the Marion County Rescue Squad.

Armel said the driver of the Audi appeared to have pulled off Coleman Avenue into the path of a a Ford F-350, which was traveling west on Country Club Road toward Locust Avenue.

According to Armel, the Ford struck the Audi and then went into the ditch at the side of the road. The truck then turned onto its side. The driver of the truck was not injured, Armel said.

“The accident is still under investigation,” Armel said.

Along with the Fairmont Police Department and the Marion County Rescue Squad, the Fairmont Fire Department also responded to the scene. The accident closed both lanes of Country Club Road until the debris could be cleared from the area.

Fairmont City Police investigated another two-vehicle accident which occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on Bellview Boulevard. A Fairmont-Marion Transit Authority vehicle and a full-size Chevrolet pickup truck were involved in the accident.

According to Jeff Mullenax, office manager at the transit authority, a 10-passenger van was involved in the accident. The lone passenger on the van was transported to the hospital, Mullenax said.

Fairmont Patrolman First Class G. Staley was the investigating officer. According to Mullenax, the driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling north on Bellview Avenue as was the transit authority van. Staley was unable to be contacted concerning the accident.
