Four get time for federal drug charges

By Katie Wilson
Times West Virginian

CLARKSBURG United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced four Fairmont residents were sentenced in federal court last week.

All four were charged with crimes involving narcotics. All were sentenced in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Chief Judge Irene M. Keeley.

On Wednesday, William Harmon, 27, of Fairmont was sentenced to 135 months imprisonment to be followed by three years of supervised release pursuant to an earlier entered plea of guilty. Harman, originally a resident of Cleveland, entered a plea of guilty on April 17, 2007 to one count of an indictment charging him with distribution of 1.91 grams of cocaine base on Nov. 2, 2006 in Chesapeake, W. Va.

As part of his plea, Harman admitted to being involved in the distribution of between one and three pounds of crack cocaine in the Fairmont and Morgantown areas over a little more than two years. Harman, who has been in custody since his arrest on March 14, 2007, was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal institution.

On Monday, Fairmont resident Gina Marshall, 44, was sentenced to 12 months and one day imprisonment to be followed by five years supervised release, pursuant to an earlier plea of guilty. Marshall entered a plea of guilty in November 2006 to one count of an indictment charging her with aiding and abetting the distribution of “crack” cocaine within 1,000 feet of Monticello Avenue Playground on Jan. 12, 2006 in Clarksburg.

Marshall is currently free on bond and will self-report to a designated federal institution.

Finally, on Tuesday, Amy Smallwood, 23 and Lawrence Vincent, 34, were sentenced.

Smallwood will serve 70 months imprisonment to be followed by four years supervised release, pursuant to an earlier guilty plea entered July 5, 2007 to one count of an indictment charging her with conspiracy to distribute more than five grams of “crack” cocaine in Marion and Harrison Counties. Smallwood is in federal custody.

Vincent was sentenced to 57 months imprisonment to be followed by three years supervised release, pursuant to an earlier entered plea of guilty. Vincent entered a plea of guilty on July 5, 2007, to one count of an indictment charging him with the distribution of “crack” cocaine on Jan. 26, 2007 in Marion County. Vincent is in federal custody.
