C.J. Maggie’s American Grill in downtown Fairmont is no longer in business.
On Saturday at midnight, the restaurant permanently closed down after being in operation for about a year and a half. Forty people lost their jobs, and the property is now for sale.
“It was not profitable,” owner C.J. Rylands said of the store.
He said the operating costs, taxes, other expenses and low revenue were all factors.
On average, the Fairmont store was bringing in about $1,000 less a day than the other C.J. Maggie’s restaurants, which are in Buckhannon and Elkins. Plus, compared to the other restaurants, the property taxes were excessive at the Fairmont location, Rylands said.
