City aims to remove demolition ‘barrier’

Fairmont seeks ‘city hall rather than a city floor’

FAIRMONT — At Tuesday’s Fairmont City Council meeting, council members set a public hearing for an ordinance that would make changes to fees associated with demolition permits.

According to City Manager Jay Rogers, there is currently a $25 fee for the first $2,500 worth of a demolition project, with an additional $10 fee for every $1,000 of the project after that. Rogers said that the changes, if the ordinance is passed, would max fees out at $50 for any project regardless of its cost.

“It’s just one more barrier to remove for people,” Rogers said. “We hope it makes it a little bit easier.”
