FAIRMONT — Tails were wagging Saturday afternoon during U.S. Cellular’s pet adoption day event with the Marion County Humane Society.

Sales manager Josh Wray and the team of the U.S. Cellular store at 14 East Grafton Rd. in Fairmont were trying to make plans for some type of community event, and they came up with the idea of working with the local Humane Society.

“They love animals and they just felt that would be something really cool that we could do partnering with the Humane Society,” said Scott Van Riper, store manager for Fairmont and Clarksburg.

He said U.S. Cellular wants to organize worthwhile efforts like this and tries to get involved in the community as much as it can.

“Any company that wants to help by funding one of these (events), that helps us out a lot,” said Mary Sue Miller, who is on the board of the Marion County Humane Society. “It brings people to us.”

The Humane Society set up tents in the parking lot of the Fairmont store from 1-5 p.m. Saturday to help create awareness for the no-kill shelter. Some of the homeless dogs and cats that need adopted were on site and ready for love and attention from the visitors who stopped by.

Miller said these kinds of events allow the dogs and cats to socialize. People can also bring their children or other animals to introduce them to potential new furry family members.
