Dilapidated and vacant structures may cause eye sores for residents of Fairmont, but many other municipalities in the state are suffering from the problem as well.
The West Virginia Municipal League, a statewide, nonprofit, nonpartisan association of cities, towns and villages, recognized the growing issue and has sponsored a proposal requesting that the West Virginia Legislature take action by assisting the municipalities in combatting the problem.
Fairmont City Council unanimously adopted a resolution in support of the request earlier this week at a regularly scheduled council meeting.
