A Marion County woman was arrested by Marion County sheriff’s deputies and charged with domestic battery.
According to the criminal complaint filed at the Marion County Magistrate Court, Kimberly Kay Shaffer, 42, of Route 6, Box 252A, Fairmont, was arrested Sept. 5 after an incident on East Grafton Road.
Deputy B.C. Hawkins responded to a domestic involving Shaffer and the victim in which she was driving the victim home from work. She abruptly stopped at a store and went in to make a phone call.
The victim attempted to take the vehicle and she tried to get the keys. According to written and oral statements from the victim and witnesses, she began to hit the victim and then drove off.
A domestic protective order issued July 3 will expire Oct. 15.
The defendant had been convicted of domestic battery first and second offenses on May 1, 2013.
She was taken to the North Central Regional Jail on $7,500 bond.
Conviction of a third violation of domestic battery is one to five years in a state correctional facility, a fine of up to $2,500 or both.
