First-responders in Marion County were honored for their service to the public at a Patriot Day ceremony hosted by Pierpont Community & Technical College at Veterans' Square Wednesday.
“Pierpont was intentional about having one of our first events as a community member in downtown Fairmont to honor our first-responders,” Larson said. “We wanted to let the community know we honor these folks and we’re so very grateful for all they do for the community.”
Wednesday marked the 12-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that were felt throughout the country.
“On 9/11 most of us remember very clearly where we were and how we felt when we saw on the news that those planes had hit the towers,” Larson said. “At first, it was disbelief and then we realized that it was real.”
