Step right up and see a man lie on a bed of nails.
Or eat fire or handle snakes or walk on broken glass.
The Kent Family Circus of California will be a new addition to the Mannington District Fair, which gets under way today at Hough Park and the adjacent fairgrounds, and they will be performing about three shows a day of old-timey attractions and stunts.
“It’s not a typical circus,” said Eva Yoho, treasurer of the Mannington District Fair, which will be held today through Saturday. “They do a lot of magical, old-type things like the bed of nails and fire-eating.”
The fair also will feature the usual attractions, such as musical entertainment, including Ryan Cain and the Ables at 7 and 9 p.m. Wednesday, the Fabulous Hubcaps at 7 and 9 p.m. Friday and Tann Lynne and the Total Package at 9:30 p.m. Saturday; plus comedian Cletus T. Judd at 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday.
But there will be some new events as well, Yoho said. A full schedule of events can be viewed online at www.manningtondistrictfair.org.
In addition to the Kent Family Circus, another new act will be the Fearless Flores Thrill Show, which was featured on season 6 of “America’s Got Talent,” the same TV show and season won by West Virginia native Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.
“They get in a big metal ball and ride motorcycles,” Yoho said. “It’s a pretty neat show. That is another one that is going to perform all week, and they are doing two shows a day.”
