For many of us, if we walk a mile or two in a day, we’re doing pretty well.
So far, Nick Mayle has made it from Philippi to Cameron, and he’s still got a long way to go.
Mayle, a football coach at Philippi Middle School, is making the 172-mile trek to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, to raise awareness and funds for the middle school sports programs in Barbour County, which are in danger of being cut completely.
“I’m pretty good,” he said as he approached the Wetzel County border. “I’ve got blisters on top of blisters, but other than that, hanging in there.”
Mayle and fellow coach Marcus Johnson set out from Philippi on April 1, making their way to the Worthington Volunteer Fire Department, where they spent the night.
